Both Viagra and sildenafil are widely used to treat erectile dysfunction. In fact, they contain the same active ingredient. Viagra is a brand name for the sildenafil produced and sold by the company Pfizer. Sildenafil is also sold as a generic drug, which is medically identical to Viagra.
Sildenafil citrate was Albert Wood and Peter Dunn as a possible treatment for hypertension and angina; conditions associated with coronary heart disease. In 1991 Dr. Nicholas Terrett, now often referred to as the father of Viagra, was named in the British patent for the drug as a heart medication. And though Pfizer’s early trials of the drug in the 1990s did not prove its efficacy as a heart medication, patients who took part in the clinical trials reported increased erections after taking sildenafil. Separate studies provided more information on the biochemical process that causes erections, which helped scientists understand how sildenafil could enhance the effects of sexual stimulation and open up blood vessels in the penis. Sildenafil was then studied in men with erectile dysfunction, and in 1998 it was approved by the FDA specifically for treatment of ED and branded as Viagra.
When for the drug in June 2013 it made way for generic manufacturers to produce sildenafil, or ‘generic Viagra’. It costs a fraction of the price of Viagra, and has made the treatment more accessible to a wider range of patients. You can now choose to buy, Pfizer’s branded drug, or, the generic version.
Branded Viagra comes in small diamond-shaped blue pills – Pfizer has also patented this pill design and appearance. Sildenafil is sold as white or blue tablets, with different characteristics depending on the brand. Some have chalky finishes while others are smooth, and some are scored for easy division, while others are not. Both Viagra and the different can be purchased in 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg preparations, and there is no significant difference between them in terms of active ingredients.

Branded Viagra is only produced by Pfizer, whose name recognition and customer loyalty allow it to charge a higher price for its renowned ‘little blue pills’.
Viagra and sildenafil are medically the same. It is a requirement for the generic version to contain the same levels of the active ingredient in the body as its branded alternative, which is known as. Before generic drugs are licenced for sale the manufacturer must demonstrate bioequivalence to the licensing authorities (the ).

The Zambian government has announced that it has granted authorisation for a purchase of about two kilograms (kg) of viagra (a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction) by the country’s government.
The decision to grant authorisation comes after a consultation with the country’s health authorities.
Health authorities will assess the purchase decision with the country’s health commission and the health ministry. The ministry will then decide whether to give the purchase authorised by the government.
Viagra, or sildenafil citrate, is the generic version of the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra. The purchase of Viagra will be subject to an assessment by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, which will decide whether the purchase authorisation will be granted.
According to the Health Ministry, the ministry is also responsible for the administration of the country’s health system.
The ministry will advise the country’s health authorities on whether Viagra should be granted authorisation for an order of up to three kilograms (kg) of sildenafil, which is the generic version of the erectile dysfunction drug. Viagra is a type of drug known as a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor and it works by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis, allowing increased blood flow and resulting in an erection.
The ministry also issued a letter to the ministry requesting it to consider the sale of two kilograms (kg) of sildenafil, which is the generic version of Viagra, as a “modifiable treatment option” for erectile dysfunction.

Background:Sildenafil (Viagra) has a limited market reach and its use is not recommended because of the risks associated with the drug. The most common side effects reported by men taking sildenafil were headaches, flushing, dyspepsia, and abdominal pain. However, there is a risk of developing serious drug-drug interactions with sildenafil. This study aimed to estimate the adverse drug reaction profile of sildenafil, the incidence of drug-drug interactions and drug-drug interactions associated with sildenafil.
Methods:This was a double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre, placebo-controlled, multisite, multi-center study in patients with a documented adverse drug reaction (ADR) who were taking sildenafil (Viagra) at doses of 4.6, 8.9, and 12.9 mg/day (Table 1).
Results:We observed a higher incidence of drug-drug interactions, defined as drug-drug interactions for the first three adverse drug reactions (ADRs) during the study period, compared to the first ADR for the other ED drugs. The number of drug-drug interactions per patient was greater in patients who used sildenafil (n=737) than in patients who used placebo (n=737). The number of drug-drug interactions were higher for sildenafil (n=543) than for placebo (n=543). The rates of drug-drug interactions and drug-drug interactions for ED drugs were also higher in patients who used sildenafil (n=543) than in patients who used placebo (n=543).
Conclusions:This study identified an increased incidence of drug-drug interactions, which may be associated with sildenafil treatment and may require further investigation. The results of this study suggest that sildenafil can be used to treat erectile dysfunction, although its use should be limited to patients who have not responded to other treatments. These findings should be taken into account when determining the safety of sildenafil in men with a documented ADR.
